Pierre Jarsaillon
Engineering Manager
Pierre joined SmartNews in 2019 as a Mobile Software Engineer (Android) to work on the US Politics squad at that time, developing the News From All Sides feature. In 2021, he became the Engineering Manager of the newly created News Mobile Team, which focuses on the core reading experience of the application.
Coming from France, he first went to Japan through an academic exchange program (Kobe!). He then worked at LINE Fukuoka for a couple of years before moving to Tokyo and starting work at SmartNews.
Mahdi Bchatnia
iOS Engineer
Originally from Tunisia/Morocco, Mahdi moved to Japan in 2014 for an internship in Web Development and fell in love with the country. After shifting his focus to iOS development, he joined LINE and worked there for about three years.
Mahdi joined SmartNews in 2020 (at the height of the pandemic!) and has been working on US News features. Currently, he is part of the News Mobile Team, where he dedicates his time to making the reading experience even better for the app’s millions of users.
Fei Ye
Android Engineer
Fei came to Japan from China to take a master’s course in 2010 and started his career as a mobile engineer at DeNA after graduation. After spending six years in his previous company, he joined SmartNews before the summer of 2019. Since joining, he has worked in several pillars within the organization, including ads, news, and community. He is now the only member of the News Mobile Team Shanghai as he has since moved back to China due to Covid-19. He works closely with colleagues in other offices to improve the performance of Top Channel.
Dean Alvin Moncada
Android Engineer
Dean just joined SmartNews in October of last year. Hired for the Tokyo office, he is currently working remotely from his home country of the Philippines due to border closures.
He has previously worked as an Android Engineer in Singapore for an e-commerce company. Before that, he worked as an Android Engineer on customer loyalty apps. He is currently a member of the News Mobile Team at SmartNews, which is dedicated to improving the users’ reading and browsing experience in the app.
